Tribe Government
The Steilacoom Tribal Council is the governing body of the Tribe. It is composed of 9 members elected every three years by the membership of the Tribe at a regularly scheduled General Membership meeting. The Council manages Tribal property and assets, and administers Tribal funds and programs (e.g. Food & Nutrition, Employment, and Cultural Activities). Even though the Steilacoom Tribe signed a ratified treaty with the United States and has maintained an unbroken line of political leadership, the Tribe today is not recognized by the federal government.
